When do you put away Christmas?

My first conversation with the man who would someday be my husband concerned the length of time it is appropriate to display the decorated Christmas tree.  I argued that the Feast of the Epiphany ends the traditional 12 days of Christmas, so that is the appropriate moment.  He firmly believes that out of respect for the life of the tree, we must display it as long as possible, preferably until the first day of spring or until it becomes a fire hazard.  What’s your opinion?

At our house it is out of respect for the amount of time decorating! We need to have enough time to enjoy the fruits of our labor (or to forget what a pain it was to unpack everything – sort of like how women forget the pain of childbirth).

I definitely keep all my things up through Epiphany- my grandmother’s influence for sure. I also just like how the house looks decorated. So much better to come home on a cold January night and have the warm cheery look of Christmas! Oh- and when the holiday decorations come down they are replaced with all my winter decorations- all about the snowmen.
